May 8, 2012–Historian and researcher Richard M. Dolan, and journalist and screenwriter, Bryce Zabel, discussed the various scenarios that will follow an official acknowledgement of the existence of UFOs, ETs and alien contact. "If you believe that UFOs are real and you believe there is a cover-up," Dolan observed, "then the logical question is 'what happens if that secrecy were to end?'" While they did not put a timetable on when such revelations could happen, Zabel expressed optimism that disclosure could occur in his lifetime and was "pretty darn sure" that his children will see such a historic day.
Dolan theorized that the two most likely scenarios to fuel disclosure are either a mass sighting witnessed by many people and documented in many forms or a major 'Wikileaks' type of revelation. From there, Zabel suggested that the undeniable nature of the event could lead to documents being released as well as whistle blowers and foreign countries speaking out about the phenomenon, thus creating unstoppable momentum which builds towards official disclosure. "That may be the ultimate scenario," he mused, "where it's a little bit of everything." Once disclosure happens, Dolan said, the massive infrastructure of secrecy will become revealed to the public and the "intellectual elite" will be questioned as to how they could have overlooked the UFO phenomenon.
In looking at other potential events in the aftermath of disclosure, the pair stressed that how the world reacts to the news may have more to do with human nature than the actual revelation itself. In the immediate days following disclosure, Zabel surmised that there will be a period of self-induced panic by the general population as stores are emptied and communication systems are jammed. Beyond that, Dolan foresaw a "battle" between those who have kept the UFO reality a secret and the populace who will want to know how and why such knowledge had been withheld from the human race. Ultimately, Dolan warned, "disclosure is likely to be a very unsatisfying process for the world," since those with true UFO knowledge may not have all the answers and "for generations we're still going to be arguing" over the nature of the phenomenon. On November 30, 2011, Richard M. Dolan and Bryce Zabel, co-authors of A.D. After Disclosure, drafted a petition to the White House to "Investigate Unidentified Aerial Phenomena as Reported by Citizens, Police, Astronauts, Pilots and the Military." The full text of the petition reads:
"Searching for microbes on Mars and radio signals from space is not enough. We must explain Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, or UAP, right here on Earth.
For six decades worldwide, credible witnesses (including Presidents Carter and Reagan) have consistently described objects with flight capabilities beyond our technology. UAP are often verified by radar and even seen at nuclear sites by military officers.
Given the national security implications, the United States should conduct an independent investigation. This inquiry must transparently review the key unsolved UAP reports with access to classified documents. It must have the power to call witnesses and grant immunity.
The findings should be publicly presented."

Richard Dolan talked about his new book, co-authored with Bryce Zabel, After Disclosure, which examines what life will be like after the reality of UFOs is revealed. Despite what has been a fruitless, decades-long fight for answers to the UFO enigma, the authors contended that disclosure is an inevitability.
"There's going to be a time, a day, a moment, an event," Dolan said, "something in which the 'powers that be' are forced to make the decision to disclose." "When they do decide they have to give it up, because events are spinning out of their own control, they'll try to manage it, even as it goes public." Having looked at the various possible scenarios where UFO disclosure becomes such a necessity, they determined that an incontrovertible, mass UFO sighting recorded by modern technology would be the most likely event.
Detailing how he thinks they think UFO disclosure would unfold, the authors speculated that the announcement may occur on a Friday afternoon. They theorized that this timing would be used to off-set a potentially catastrophic stock market reaction and to also allow for the general public to use the weekend to digest the stunning news.
The duo traced the disclosure announcement from the first day, which they foresee as a time of confusion and potential panic, to the first week, when people would begin asking questions about why and how this news remained secret for so long. This call for accountability, they said, would result in a paradoxical relationship between society and the media, military, and government, where they would be blamed for "missing" the story but also looked to for answers and protection.
Ultimately, Zabel and Dolan put forward the idea that, while the first post-disclosure year would be "a bumpy ride," society will eventually stabilize as it becomes acclimated to the new world that has emerged from beneath the veil of secrecy.

Richard M. Dolan was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1962. He holds an MA in History from the University of Rochester and a BA in History from Alfred University. He earned a Certificate in Political Theory from Oxford University and was a Rhodes Scholar finalist. Prior to his interest in anomalous phenomena, Dolan studied US Cold War strategy, Soviet history, and international diplomacy.
In 2000, he published a 500-page study, UFOs and the National Security State. This is the first volume of a two-part historical narrative of the national security dimensions of the UFO phenomenon from 1941 to the present. Included are the records of more than fifty military bases relating to innumerable violations of sensitive airspace by unknown objects, demonstrating that the US military has taken the topic of UFOs seriously indeed.
Apollo 14 astronaut Dr. Edgar Mitchell has called Dolan's book "monumental," while Dr. Hal Puthoff, Director of the Institute for Advanced Studies at Austin, has declared it to be "a must-read for serious students in the field."Dolan has published numerous articles on anomalous phenomena, science, and the intelligence community for UFO Magazine.
